Course of swimming lessons
I target adults over 18 years of age. The swimming lesson described here is fully adapted to this age group.
We swim in the Šutka pool
My swimming trainings usually take place in the Aqua Šutka pool. For an individual training or group trainings, we swimm in public space, either in the runways for fitness swimmers or in free space with other swimmers. These are individual swimming trainings without a rented separate lane. When we teach new swimming elements, you usually move only in the area where you can touch the bottom of the pool. During swiming techniques which you know well, you swim across all the pool.
I'm either in the water with you or I teach from the shore. The decision is on me, but I prefer to be on the shore. If you would like to have an instruction always on the shore, please let me know in advance, otherwise I will leave the decision to myself. I can not guarantee teaching when I'm in the water with you. If I occasionally swim with you, I swim only with the fastest swimmers. I am not with non-swimmers or intermediate non-swimmer in the water, I am always on the shore. Please keep it in your mind.
I suppose adults are swimmers. Most adults have undergone basic swimming training in the Czech Republic. Of course, I will test everybody at the first lesson. If you are a non-swimmer or a partial swimmer, please let me know in advance. A swimming belt is used as a major relief aid in this case, which is around the waist. I suggest that you buy your own swimming aids and bring them with you to the pool. Initially, I can borrow swimming aids. I mainly work with a Speedo kickboard (alternatively DENA kickboard) or pullboy and training swim fins for the improvement of the swimming technique. However, I prefer swimming without any buoyancy swimming aids.
Please get your swimming goggle and swimming cap right for the first lesson. I recommend Speedo Jet or a similar type and swim cap Speedo Long Hair Cap or swim cap TYR Silicone and Speedo swimsuit Endurance+ (gentlemen choose men's variant :) Every swimming goggle need to be tested in the dry place first at a shop before you buy them! If you are not bald, a swimming cap is necessary. You will dive your head. I teach everybody without exception to breathe in the water if you have not done it yet. We will not swim a style of „Mrs. Radová's breaststroke“, and if so, it is only because of the pedaling of water. Ladies have to count on wet or damp hair, the cap usually puts on completely wet hair. When a cap is missing, the water flows from the hair directly into the mouth, and more water flows into the ears. However, everybody should get used to both the water flowing into the ears and the open eyes under the water without the glasses.
How do we know each other and where do we meet?
Please, don't go to the water before my instructions. That goes for everyone - for non-swimmers and semi-swimmers! Don't do the jump into the water without my instructions during swimming lessons! Jumping into the pool is possible only with the agreement with me, with my direct instruction only in places where there is sufficient depth and where it is allowed by the rules of the swimming pool. I do not want to see any broken neck or drowned person. No matter how good the swimmer you are, during my lesson you have to listen to me in this way. Thank you.
First meeting for the individual training
Unless we agree differently, I usually meet attendees directly at the 50-meter swimming pool under the round wall clock that is on the wall in the pool area. The swimming clocks can be seen in the photos at the back of the striped wall. I would ask you to stand under the clock at the time of the beginning of the swimming lesson until we find each other. When I see someone stand idle, I will come to him and address him… Until I find you or you find me, I can swim in the pool or be somewhere in the pool. I can swim until I see you under the clock. One turn in the pool takes about 2 minutes. Within 5 minutes, I should definitely notice you. If you see me and you will find me before, please speak to me.
I wear black one-piece swimsuits or black swimsuit with shorts or short black-violet neoprene and swimming white cap. I wear a neoprene if I swim with you. Otherwise, I can even wear black swimsuits. I always have a green or blue bottle nalgene of water and a set of kickboards with the inscriptions „plavco.cz“ or „vyuka-plavani.cz“ with me in the pool. I usually have two towels stretched out on the steps. These things are located on the shore or on the steps. In these cases, I move mostly around them or in the appropriate lane.
Other meetings for the individual training
Other encounters are no longer a problem. They already take place at most of the time at the steps of the 50-meter pool where I have my things. No-swimmers always wait for me on the shore and they go into the water only at my command! If there is a problem with a meeting, then THE ROUND WALL CLOCK is the meeting point number 1! Even if the training takes place in an aquapark or in a small swimming pool, the main meeting point will always be at the 50-meter pool under the clock or at my things.
The beginning and the end of lesson
Swimming lessons take place mostly in the morning on weekdays. It is exceptionally possible to arrange training for another time. Workouts may be of a one-off or regular nature. Together we will discuss the specific days and time and the length of the swimming lesson. These terms will be written on the invoice. At the time of the beginning of the training, I will expect you at a shore of the pool. If you are a swimmer, you can swim before training for a while, but your swimming will have no effect on the standard course of training.
I adhere to the beginning and end of the training. I have 15 minutes breaks between the training participants. Even if you come earlier, the training starts at a pre-arranged time. I myself need a break for change of clothes or I need warm-up at just before the lesson.
Please note that I do not look at the phone during a swimming lesson. Sometimes when a participant is not there, I go back to the dressing room and look at the phone, but I do not use a phone during a swimming lesson (usually also before and after it). The agreed training time is mutually binding. I am usually on time at training. If you do not arrive within 15 minutes (an academic quarter-hour) from the planned start of the swimming lesson, and you will not let me know what was happened, so I can find swimming lesson as finished.
The length of swimming lesson
I offer swimming lessons of standard length of 45 minutes. Upon agreement, we can extend the the individual lessons lenght for a maximum of 15 minutes an additional cost. Longer extension is not appropriate and usually is not possible. If someone feels too tired, we can shorten the swimming lesson. After a swimming lesson, you can enjoy the pool on your own (you have own entrance fee).
The lesson content
The length of the lesson is a pre-given continuous time block during which I pay attention to you. This block does not include time spending in the cloakroom, in the showers etc. It is just a time of swimming lessons right in the pool, but if you come late, it is your fault.
The swimming lesson has a certain predetermined course. The content of the lesson can be for example, how to behave in the pool, warming up, swimming, water game, teaching new swimming elements, demonstration on the shore, demonstration on the edge of the pool, demonstration in water, swimming, diving, breathing training, practising of swimming elements, checking swimming elements, fixing bugs, monitoring your swimming and staying in the water.
Keep in mind that teaching new features and swimming correction does not cover all swimming lesson. The standard 45-minute lesson has its own order, eg warming-up, repeating, teaching, repeating, playing, etc. Typically, the 45-minute lesson is structured as follows:
- introduction to the swimming lesson - (about 2 minutes),
- warming-up (ie swimming + repeating swimming method or elements that you already know very well, is a very important part – it is actually a warm-up) – (about 10 to 15 minutes),
- teaching new swimming elements or repeating swimming elements that make the problem - (about 20 minutes),
- floating and lesson evaluation (ie swimming + repeating the swimming method or elements that you already know very well) - (about 5 to 10 minutes),
- lesson evaluation and conclusion - (about 3 minutes).
During swimming lessons I do not focus strictly eg. on crawl, but I even correct your swimming technique when you swim breaststroke. We also swim the breaststroke and crawl to relax and warm up. I usually teach you breathing into the water during the breaststroke. Swimming methods and techniques are much alternated during lessons and I teach you overall swimming skills, focusing more on what you want to do. Everything is related to everything…
Number of lessons (I recommend at least 20, ideally „infinity“)
The number of lessons is individual. I recommend regular and long-term training that practically never ends. As a minimum set, I recommend counting at least 20 lessons. I usually have a teaching schedule for this count. However, after 4 lessons you should make some progress. I do not prescribe a strict number of lessons. The number of lessons is up to you. I usually choose the pace of the lessons individually. However, it is advisable to agree in advance on the expected time. Then we can partly adapt training to our schedule. The required number of lessons can be partially estimated after the first swimming lesson with you. Count on at least 20 swimming lessons based on my previous experience and general recommendations, if you want to learn something.
For your idea, children have lesson plans in kindergartens and primary schools after about 10 lessons, namely 4 × 10 lessons in kindergarten + 2 × 10 lessons in elementary school. That's 60 lessons. It is such a minimum. We do not mean the swimming in the swimming club - there are conditions set entirely differently. Someone during this time learns three swimming ways typically in the Czech Republic (breaststroke, backstroke and krowl), someone learns only two (breaststroke, backstroke), someone one (breaststroke). Someone unfortunately does not learn any swimming style. Everyone is different, with other dispositions and possibilities. Everything is very individual and it takes time.
So after my experience I recommend at least 20 lessons. When we count on swimming once a week for 5 months, it will be half a year with some occasional absence. So for at least about half a year, you can handle a new swimming method, if you are already a swimmer. You can pay for sets after four lessons to avoid a big time commitment and to avoid spending too much money at one time. After every four lessons you should see a certain shift forward and you can continue in teaching. At the same time, I think it is appropriate (especially because of saving money) when you do your own swimming training among our lessons. If you are a total beginner, it is better to be always accompanied by someone else! When you swim for example 2 times a week (once with me and one yourself), you will greatly improve the physical condition and it will go better. Take at least a day of rest between swimming training. I think the swimming 1 times a week is a minimum, it is better to swim 2 times or 3 times a week. And we talk about recreational and fitness swimming more or less. Racing swimming is somewhere else. When you have long pauses between your workouts, your body will in the meantime forget what has already been learned and you will learn everything again and again and there will be almost no progress…
If you would like to subscribe to a set of lessons, I suggest you pay at least 4 swimming lessons at the same time, taking into account my business terms and conditions. It is best to count on continuous continuous training. You can have ongoing training once a week, but you can also do it for training 1 times per 14 days or 1 times per month, and during a time you can swim and try techniques yourself. However, keep in mind that if you swim more yourself, you can do bad mistakes. Then it could be dificult to broke that habit. I consider joint training 2 times a week as an ideal choice for common swimmers.
But everything is very individual. Progress also depends on your past experience, abilities and possibly bad habits that are very badly retrained. For example, the prerequisite for crawl training are mastered breathing into the water and swimming backstroke. If these initial prerequisites are missing, we will spend much more time by learning.
You can also swim in groups created by you or me. I allow a maximum of three participants in a group session. If you create your own group, it is necessary to have roughly the same level of swimming skills in order to not keep another swimmers longer while swimming and we can do common techniques.
My levels of swimming
|Swimming level||Characteristics of the swimming level|
Better swimmer is able to swim seamlessly at least 1 000 m for no more than 30 min, can swim in all swimming styles (breaststroke - at least 1100 m, freestyle (front crawl) - at least 1100 m, backstroke - at least 500 m, butterfly - at least 25 m) and can jump from the start block. Sometimes I use the simplified criterion of the Cooper's 12-minute swim test, according to which a swimmer of acceptable fitness level usually manages to swim in at least 400 m in any way.
The swimmer can swim with no problems at all times at least 200 m in any swimming style and can fall into deep water. 200 m should be a continuous stretch without any rest, which is swimmed without apparent signs of exhaustion.
The intermediate non-swimmer can swim at least 10 m but less than 200 m. Typically, the intermediate non-swimmer is able to swim for example 25 or 50 m and then has to rest.
The non-swimmer can swim less than 10 m or cannot swim at all. Teaching takes place in the relaxation pool or in the large swimming pool.
A note: The officially acknowledged criterion for someone to be labeled as a swimmer is a continuous swim distance of 200 meters without any rest and obvious signs of exhaustion. If someone can swim at least 10 m but cannot swim at least 200 m, I call him intermediate non-swimmer. If you are not able to swim at least 10 m, you are non-swimmer.
