Butterfly

Learn to swim butterfly

Butterfly is considered the most difficult swimming way. It is very elegant and many will be surprised that it is the second fastest swimming way right after the crawl. Yes it's right. The order of speed in swimming is: 1. crawl, 2. butterfly, 3. backstroke and 4. breaststroke.

A prerequisite for butterfly is mastering all other methods of swimming at a decent level. I think it is a good level to be able to swim 1000 m without interruption. The first thing to do is to learn the butterfly waves, which the swimmer can test at any time as soon as he can swim freestyle. If a swimmer learns to wave underwater, he can still try the whole style. Do not underestimate the butterfly, The Total Immersion: Extraordinary Swimming for Every Body: A guide to swimming better than you ever imagined book treats the butterfly to be the gateway to the right freestyle and other swimming styles at a decent level.

Prerequisites for swimming lessons:

Ideal is when a swimmer already knows dolphin waves. It is advisable to practice it regularly even before the butterfly training. Sometimes it's not easy for a swimmer to catch the right grif, it takes a time. But without dolphin waves, the butterfly can not be learned.

A rough outline of the content of swimming lessons:

  • repeating basic swimming skills,
  • learning dolphin waves,
  • learning butterfly breathing,
  • learning the movement of the butterfly arms,
  • learning a cycle coordination of butterfly arms and butterfly kick,
  • repetition and fixing bugs.

Teaching freestyle is continuously interlaced by the swimming method known to the swimmer (usually freestyle). In other swimming methods, I only fix gross errors.

The goal: To swim continuously at least 25 m by butterfly style. Swimming needs to be continued. It takes a lot more time to master this swimming method. After completing this training, you can make a progress with the butterfly trainings for improvement your technique.

Managed dolphin waves are a prerequisite for learning butterfly and sometimes it is not easy for swimmers to learn it.

It is possible to have any number of training sessions. Continuous regular and long-term training is common at least once a week.

A rough outline of the content of swimming lessons (the content is considerably individual):

  • fitness swimming and technical exercises:
    • repeating a cycle coordination of butterfly arms and butterfly kick,
    • repeating dolphin waves,
    • swimming drills for butterfly,
    • excercises for swim technique, fitness or speed,
    • bugs correction.

Teaching freestyle is continuously interlaced by the swimming method known to the swimmer (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke). In other swimming methods, I only fix gross errors.

The goal: First of all, it is about improving freestyle swim technique followed by endurance training. It should be remembered that only in the last row we deliberately try to increase speed. The goal can be individual.

A note: The officially acknowledged criterion for someone to be labeled as a swimmer is a continuous swim distance of 200 meters without any rest and obvious signs of exhaustion. If someone can swim at least 10 m but cannot swim at least 200 m, I call him intermediate non-swimmer. If you are not able to swim at least 10 m, you are non-swimmer.
